Interesting proposal.  Just like Reagan turned the economic mess the backwoods peanut farmer created, Mitt Romney could take the blight known as Detroit, apply conservative financial principles, turn it around and prove beyond any doubt that Obama's ecomomic policies are putting our country on a path of destruction.

What if I told you Mitt Romney can solve two of America’s biggest problems? Yes, the man whose mediocre Presidential campaign almost sunk the entire GOP can now save it. Even better, the same Mitt Romney, now an unelected private citizen, can also save Detroit — and, by doing so, prove the conservative model for the U.S. economy works and become an American hero. Let me tell you how.
Regardless of the lies the Administration and media are telling us, we are sliding into the abyss.

• Wal-Mart executives called the start to the year “a total disaster.”
• Disposable income for working Americans suffered the worst drop since record-keeping began in 1959.
• GM dealer inventory (cars sitting on lots) is the second highest in history.
• The Federal Reserve Bank reported 35 percent of student loan borrowers under the age of 30 are at least 90 days late on their payments — 35 percent?
• U.S. families with a head of household under the age of 30 have a poverty rate of 37 percent.
• Almost 50 percent of Americans have less than $500 in savings.

Folks, the U.S. economy is going down like the Hindenburg.

Why is this happening? You can see America’s future by studying Detroit. Barack Obama’s policies are damaging the entire U.S. economy, the same way that socialist policies (Democrats call them “progressive”) have destroyed Detroit. Detroit is a microcosm for everything ailing our economy.

For almost five consecutive decades, Detroit has been run by liberal Democrats following the exact policies Obama is now forcing on the U.S. economy: bigger government, more government spending, out-of-control entitlements, too many government employees, obscene pensions, high taxes, too much debt and an economy run based on “fairness” and social justice. Just look at the results; you’ll get sick to your stomach.

The Obama economic model has been on display forever in Detroit (1961 was the last time Detroit had a Republican in charge). The result is a bankrupt Third World hellhole in the middle of America.
I wrote a commentary here at Personal Liberty back in December reporting on how far Detroit has fallen. Here are just a few select highlights:

• The city has debt and liabilities of an unimaginable $14 billion.
• Almost one-third of the housing units in Detroit are vacant.
• Detroit is ranked America’s Most Dangerous City for the fourth year in a row, with violent crime five times higher than the national average.
• 34.5 percent of households get food stamps.
• The mayor recently admitted recently that true unemployment tops 50 percent.
• 54 percent of all children in Detroit live in poverty.
• Almost 50 percent of the adults in Detroit are “functionally illiterate.”

Under Obama, these kinds of results are now happening across America. The only difference is that Democrats had a 50-year head start with Detroit.

But life is funny. All this terrible news actually brings up a great opportunity. First, we learned just days ago that I was right: Detroit is now officially bankrupt, and the Governor is about to appoint a manager to try to save Detroit. Second, did you see the Romney interview on FOX News? Romney is retired, sitting on the sidelines, playing with his grandkids, chomping at the bit to use his lifetime of business experience to save the U.S. economy. Anyone can see that he desperately wants to get back in the game.

Here’s where opportunity meets a lifetime of preparation. Here’s a chance for Republicans and Democrats to stop debating, arguing and yelling at each other. Here’s an opportunity to prove by real-life example that when it comes to the economy, jobs and money, we need adults who know how to run a business in charge.

Conservatives and capitalists are the ones who have the ideas and know-how to save America.
Fate is calling. Romney was born for this role. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder should appoint Romney to oversee the turnaround of Detroit.

Last week, I mentioned here at Personal Liberty that Romney was the perfect person to become President of the United States at this moment in time. And some of you didn’t get what I meant. Yes, Romney was a lousy candidate. No debate there. No, he’s no inspiring speaker. No debate there. And he sure isn’t a principled conservative like Barry Goldwater or libertarian like Ron Paul. But I wasn’t talking about any of those things. America at this moment in time needs a businessman. A Mitt Romney or Lee Iacocca or Ross Perot. We need a no-nonsense CEO and turnaround specialist who knows how to cut budgets with a buzz saw and a bazooka.

Romney not only may be the greatest business turnaround expert of our time, sitting bored on the sidelines, just looking for a way to contribute; but he’s also a Michigan native. He’s the hometown boy. This is the perfect situation.

I’m betting that within a year this world-class brilliant businessman can give Detroit’s residents hope, and within three years put Detroit on the road to recovery. How? By undoing the damage done by five decades of Democratic policies.

It’s time to put a responsible adult in charge. It’s time to show the difference between a CEO running a city or country versus a community activist and socialist. I’m betting Romney will turn the Detroit economy around, just like he turned a failing, bankrupt Salt Lake City Olympics into one of the great successes in Olympic history. Just like he turned around dozens of major companies. Just like Ronald Reagan turned Jimmy Carter’s economy of misery, malaise and 21.5 percent interest rates into the greatest economic expansion in world history, with 20 million new jobs created almost overnight.

This doesn’t take brain science; it takes cutting government, cutting spending, cutting entitlements, cutting government employees and cutting bloated salaries and pensions. It takes running a government for the taxpayers, not the unions and welfare addicts. And it takes a leader with the courage to do it.

Let’s give Romney a chance to show what he can do. I’m the guy who predicted that President Mitt Romney would turn around the U.S. economy in record time — not because I agreed with his politics (I think he’s way too moderate, wishy-washy, nanby-pamby, Northeast liberal for me), but because saving the economy is about understanding business.

Ninety-nine percent of even the most fantastic conservative and libertarian politicians have never created a job. So let’s try an experiment with Detroit. We have nothing to lose; it can’t get any worse. Let’s see what a talented CEO with a wealth of business experience can do with a hellhole created by Obama-like economic policies.

Then, after Romney saves Detroit, the voters will finally have a proven model. There will be proof that Obama’s ideas are a failure and that fiscally conservative ideas are what will restore the American economy and the American dream. This isn’t a game. Our jobs and livelihoods and the future of our children and grandchildren are at stake. It’s time to prove lawyers and community activists shouldn’t be running our cities or States or country. We need to put adults and businessmen and businesswomen in charge of the finances.

Mr. Obama, are you game? Do you really want to save America? Do you really want to create jobs? Do you want to get people off food stamps? Or are you afraid this experiment might actually work?

As they say in poker, I’ll go “all in.” I’m betting on Romney as the guy to save Detroit and, therefore, show the way to save America. This isn’t about politics. I’ve never been a big fan of Romney’s politics. But this is about business. It’s simple: Government needs to be run like a business. It has to be run for the taxpayers. It has to be run on a budget. And if you don’t have the money, you cut spending. It’s time to put adults in charge. Here’s our chance.

Big Government, small people

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) decided to print out all 20,000 pages of ObamaCare regulations, stack them in a single pile, and photograph the result using a chair for reference.  It came out looking like this:

That’s a good seven feet of regulations.  The top 828 pages, by the way, were released in a single day.  The draft application to apply for benefits under ObamaCare runs 15 pages for a family of three, and according to a report from the Associated Press, “at least three major federal agencies, including the IRS, will scrutinize your application.”

That pile of ObamaCare paperwork is a pretty good visual metaphor for the increasingly large State towering over its diminished citizens.  The government can, by definition, only grow larger at the expense of individual liberty and private commerce.  Looming next to Sen. McConnell’s empty chair – further visual irony! – are 20,000 pages of things you cannot do, or must do, that remained within the bounds of individual decision-making as recently as 2008.  Those pages are brimming with hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes, fines, subsidies, and debt.

So the American people grow smaller, and increasingly come to resemble children in the eyes of their betters.  How else to explain New York mayor Michael Bloomberg’s judicially-thwarted Big Gulp ban?  It didn’t even make a shred of rational sense – it was an arbitrary set of laws that forbid some “unhealthy” beverages, sold by certain vendors, but permitted others.  ”Because I said so!” is a common response to the child’s demand to know why he can’t have something he wants.

“If a Mayor can’t do things to make his city’s populace healthier, what’s the point of his job?” wailed CNN host Piers Morgan, as he contemplated the swift demise of the soda ban.  Few among the earlier, hardier, more adult generations of American would have considered this part of a Mayor’s job.  They might have had trouble stifling their laughter long enough to give Morgan a list of the hundred other vital duties that form the “point” of a Mayor’s job, particularly the Mayor of an immense modern city.

But today’s smaller, more dependent American is willing to accept the basic premise that average people cannot be trusted to make various life decisions – or, as the dominant liberal culture would put it, they have little hope of making good decisions against the hypnotic power of sinister soda-brewing corporate interests.
Children expect their parents, and wise old Uncle Sam, to protect them from all manner of hobgoblins. 

They don’t mourn the loss of rights that were fearsome and difficult to exercise.

The gun control debate is routinely conducted from the perspective of government nannies taking dangerous toys away from child-citizens, rather than humble public servants bowing before the inalienable rights of sovereign citizens.  There isn’t even much pretense that specific measures would address the sensational crimes which inspired them.  ”I make no assertion that this bill will either increase or reduce violent crime,” confessed a Colorado legislator, whose bill would have disarmed law-abiding women on college campuses.

 ”That is not the premise of the bill.”

Mommy, why can’t I…?  BECAUSE I SAID SO!

Big Government finds small citizens much easier to push around.  They’re fond of advancing the argument that various corrupt features of “progressivism” are impossible to overturn – an argument now advanced with respect to ObamaCare, which is only four years old.  In other words, you Little People have diminished so much that you can never dismantle what the acolytes of the Total State have built, no matter how badly the edifice crumbles.  You will never again be as large as the people who thrashed the Axis, built the modern American economy, or walked on the Moon.  Misbehave, and you will be punished.  Decades of deficit-funded dependency have given the State many ways it can punish you – look at all they threatened to take away when a mere 2 percent of federal spending was threatened.  Wait until they have full control of your health care.  On that day, seven feet of ObamaCare regulations will seem like freedom by comparison.

Did Obama Appoint a Muslim to Head the CIA?

Corsi) – Why did John Brennan take his oath to be CIA director on a draft copy of the Constitution that did not include the Bill of Rights?  Was this a way to avoid having to take the oath on the Bible?  Was it a way of Brennan signaling he does not support the first ten amendments to the Constitution because he does not believe in or endorse the freedoms defined there.

 

In a speech delivered August 9, 2009, to the Center for Strategic and International Studies that is archived on the White House website, Brennan commented that using “a legitimate term, ‘jihad,’ meaning to purify oneself or to wage a holy struggle for a moral goal” to describe terrorists “risks reinforcing the idea that the United States is somehow at war with Islam itself.”

Brennan advised that United States foreign policy should encourage greater assimilation of the Hezbollah terrorist organization into the Lebanese government.

In a July 2008 article in The Annals, a publication of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences, Brennan argued it “would not be foolhardy, however, for the United States to tolerate, and even to encourage, greater assimilation of Hezbollah into Lebanon’s political system, a process that is subject to Iranian influence.”

Brennan continued: “Hezbollah is already represented in the Lebanese parliament and its members have previously served in the Lebanese cabinet, reflections of Hezbollah’s interest in shaping Lebanon’s political future from within government institutions.  This involvement is a far cry from Hezbollah’s genesis as solely a terrorist organization dedicated to murder, kidnapping and violence.”

At the August 2009 press conference for the CSIS, Brennan declared, “Hezbollah started out as purely a terrorist organization back in the early ‘80s and has evolved significantly over time.  And now it has members of parliament, in the cabinet; there are lawyers, doctors, others who are part of the Hezbollah organization.”

Middle Eastern terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah frequently maintain civilian units of doctors and lawyers in order to emphasize their outreach with local politicians and to increase their political acceptance in the international arena.

Conceivably, the Istanbul-based Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief, better known by the Turkish acronym IHH, would fit into Brennan’s definition of the charitable side of organizations such as Hezbollah,  ties to al-Qaeda that have been amply documented by experts such as former investigating judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere, who led the French judiciary’s counter-terrorism unit for nearly two decades before retiring in 1977.

Despite this history, IHH is not included on the State Department’s current list of 45 groups  designated as foreign terrorist organizations that names both Hezbollah and Hamas.

In his speech to the New York University law school students posted on YouTube by the White House, Brennan included a lengthy statement in Arabic that he did not translate for his English-speaking audience.
Noting that he spent time spent as an undergraduate with the American University in Cairo during the 1970s, Brennan proceeded to use only the Arabic name, “Al Quds,” when referring to Jerusalem, commenting that during his 25-year in government he spent considerable time in the Middle East, as a political officer with the State Department and as a CIA station chief in Saudi Arabia.

“In Saudi Arabia, I saw how our Saudi partners fulfilled their duty as custodians of the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina,” he said.  “I marveled at the majesty of the Haj and the devotion of those who fulfilled their duty as Muslims of making that pilgrimage.”

In 2010, Brennan participated in a meeting with Muslim law students that was facilitated by the Islamic Society of North America, a group that was named as unindicted co-conspirator in a case where the founders of Holy Land Foundation of Texas were given life sentences “for funneling $12 million” to Hamas, the group currently in political control of the Gaza.

At this 2010 meeting in New York,  Brennan declared himself a “citizen of the world,” who believed the United States government should never engage in “profiling” in pursuit of national security.

While the U.S. Senate may have chosen to ignore Brennan’s obvious tilt toward Islam, it is doubtful radical Muslims in the Middle East and around the world missed the point.

Marine Corps Veteran Questions DHS on Huge Ammo Buys

 

 “We never trained with hollow points, why would the need all those ball rounds just for training?”

(Info Wars) – A military veteran has questioned why the Department of Homeland Security is purchasing enormous amounts of ammunition, making it clear that he believes the bullets cannot possibly be for training purposes.

Commenting on the DHS’s procurement of roughly 2 billion hollow point bullets over the course of the last year, former Marine Richard Mason told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania that he has serious concerns.

“We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps,” Mason said.

When questioned recently, DHS official Peggy Dixon claimed the bullets were bought in bulk to save money and were for training purposes only. However, hollow point bullets, are very expensive in ammunition terms, and it is highly unusual to use such bullets for target practice.

“Why would they need all those hollow points,” former marine Mason asked “why would they need all those ball rounds just for training?”

Record federal government purchases have coincided with national shortages of ammunition in gun stores, leading some to believe that it is a deliberate tactic to deprive gun owners, or something much worse.

To put the DHS’ ammunition solicitations in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last year to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.

Last September, the DHS also purchased no less than 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, labeling them “Personal Defense Weapons.”

Purchases of large quantities of body armor by the DHS has also caused shortages. Last year, the agency also put out an urgent order for “riot gear” in anticipation of civil unrest. The agency has also ordered bullet-proof checkpoint booths and hired hundreds of new security guards to protect government buildings over
the course of the last 12 months.

There is also strong evidence to suggest that the DHS has recently bought around 2,700 armored military style trucks. The agency has also cemented a $2 million dollar relationship with a contractor that recently had to apologize for producing shooting targets of pregnant women, children and elderly gun owners depicted in residential settings.

Coupled with continued and sustained secrecy surrounding these purchases and contracts, many Americans are convinced that the federal government is “stockpiling” in preparation for “civil unrest.”

The DHS’ primary concern is now centered around thwarting “homegrown terrorism,” but information produced and used by the DHS to train its personnel routinely equates conservative and libertarian political ideology with domestic extremism.

A study funded by the Department of Homeland Security that was leaked last year characterizes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists. Many other recent similar government and law enforcement publications, papers and studies have also pushed this notion.

As we explained in a recent article, generating mass social dislocation has been an admitted tool used by the World Bank and the IMF to create the necessary chaos to loot major economies.

As respected investigative reporter Greg Palast exposed in 2001, the World Bank and the IMF have honed a technique that has allowed them to asset-strip numerous other countries in the past – that technique has come to be known at the “IMF riot,” a process of scaring off investors and causing government bankruptcies by fostering unrest.

A profound, succinct post to a political cartoon

Its rare to come across a well articulated post to a political article, commentary ot even a politcal cartoon.  But I came across one today and I wanted to share...

Liberal-socialist economics at its finest! Print money, borrow money, tax more, ignore the debt, ignore the deficit, do not live on a budget, and blame your opposition. Increasing the money supply is the driver of the Wall Street bubble that will burst and create yet another "crisis to not let go to waste". Obama will take all the credit for the stock market doing well but he will give out excuses and blame non-stop when the bubble bursts.

Paul Rand filibusters the Senate floor!

Kudos to Senator Rand for holding up the vote to confirm Brennan as Director of the CIA.  All Rand wants is for the President to say unequivocally to say he would never kill an American citizen on American soil with a drone for suspicion of terrorism.

Why anyone would not understand how unconstitutional this is confounds me.  What person in their right mind want a President with such low morals, no respect for the truth, disrespect for the constitution to have the power to kill you if you are simply under suspicion.

Atlanta airport worker turns in $7,000 in lost cash

ATLANTA –  A part-time parking deck worker at Atlanta's airport says she never thought about keeping the envelope with $7,000 in cash she found on the curb outside the international terminal.

Pamela North Hollowaay says she turned it in right away, then watched as her supervisor counted the money and contacted Atlanta police to pick it up.

North Hollowaay says she could have kept the cash but didn't because she's an honest person who believes in doing the right thing.

A police report shows that the envelope contained 70 $100 bills.

Police tell WSB-TV that an Alabama podiatrist who was on his way to Costa Rica called police to see if anyone had turned in the money. Police say he was able to identify specific writing on the envelope and how the money was wrapped.
